I would just connect the tie rods, keeping them fairly equal from one side to another. I would then adjust them as necessary to ensure the wheels are pointed straight ahead, and then connect your u-joint to the steering column. You need to be careful that your steering wheel is centered to the steering rack, otherwise you will break your clock spring in the steering column when you make your first hard turn. A broken clock spring will result in your horn, cruise control, and HICAS failing.
